Im a South African Citizen. My visa is valid for two years but I hear that I can extend it for another 6 months

Go to the South African embassy in London or go to a travel agent if you dont want to go to london

you cant. 2 years is the longest possible time you can be here on that visa.

this is from the UKvisa website -

"Can I apply to extend my stay once I am in the UK?

You cannot extend your stay as a working holidaymaker. However, you may be eligible to switch into work permit employment after 12 months in the UK if your occupation is on the list of ‘shortage occupations’. Working holidaymakers can also apply to stay in the UK as ‘Innovators’ and in the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme (HSMP)."

You would file for a I-539 Form, that you can acces at http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis. This is an extension of the working visa.
