From what I know, it is a tricky job, and at my house the glass is indeed much thicker. I can't say that it would be that much more, it would depend on the specialist that you called, and how good they are.
Once I had to have the back half of my mum's roof replaced. Dad had died just before, and though young, I was stuck with it. I hired a bloke who lived in my street a few houses down.
Yes, he was cheap, and and handy, and ultimately did a good job. However, I had to go down about half nine or ten every morning to get him out of bed. He was usually full of beer and pot from the night before.
My mum took a relaxed attitude about the blighter because he had three little boys and a very nice girlfriend.
The point of my story: You can save substantially with having help from friends or friends of friends, but patience often is a part of payment.
Good luck with your cat flap!

If this is a glass door and I'm assuming it is your out of luck sweetheart. The glass should be tempered, this means thickness has little to do with it. For safety it has to be tempered for safety so one can't trip or? and go through it.
Usually these doors (glass( can't be used for anything simply because they can't be cut, not without damage. You'll have to get a professional to do this or your going to lose your door. By the way, you can by the door with this opening but, they're not cheap.

Tell your BF's friend to forget it.
That is quite a bit of money for a catflap door.
You probably would have been better off calling someone else to do it.

take the glass out, put in upve and a cat flap could even be fitted by your glazier boyfriend, either that or get a glazier boyfriend who can do glazing!

sounds a bit of a pain! looks like if you wait long enough it might be cheaper to buy a new door with it in.

price out a specialist yourself for an estimate and see how long it would take. also see what it would take to do yourself. sometimes it is not as hard as they make it out as. wut would it cost to take door off and take in to shop and have done? look into it. then you will know for sure
