That is definitely too old, especially for a first litter. My girls retire from breeding at 7.

It is too old. Remember just because you CAN physically do something, doesn't mean you SHOULD. I'm sure I'm healthy enough to go bungee-jumping, but I'm not gonna. LOL

You say she is in "good health." Do you have a list of all of the things she needs to be screened for before she can be bred?
Are her eyes "clear" for Collie Eye Anomaly? At one time an estimated 90 percent of collies had some type of eye disease.

Screening your dog for health problems can be an expensive undertaking and will eat up any money you could earn from the pups. Although some people would advise you to skip the screening to save money, this could backfire badly. CEA is present at birth. You could end up with a couple of pups with poor vision or a pup with a detached retina who is blind in one eye.

I am sure you love your dog very much and want what's best for her. Please do not take this risk. Consider having your dog spayed so she can live a longer, healthier life.

Since this is the first time, your female collie can breed. The mate should preferably of 5 years and healthy. However, check up with the Vet the condition of your female.

If you have to ask, you shouldn't be breeding anyway because you haven't a clue what you're doing. Any age is too old to breed your dog if you're not a responsible breeder, breeding to improve the breed. Your dog should have been spayed long ago.

Yes, 7 years is too old to breed any breed of dog.
A dog should not have her first litter of pups after the age of 5 years old.

I dont know about a collie but when my daughter asked her vet about her maltese sitzu cross of ten years if she should get her dog speyed the vet said no she's too old anyway when she left her dog at our home our little bitsa had a ball he became a man and the maltese had five of the most beutiful pups so I think maybe you are ok to breed.

OF COURSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And for "Bright Bernie"....smalls dogs should not be bred that old, but especially large dogs. They live a longer life anyway, and are considered "seniors" at an earlier age.

And any vet that would say it is a good idea to breed a seven year old Collie is just an idiot. The question would be, why has she not been spayed in seven years?????

If your dog is healthy, then I don't see why it would hurt her to be bred.A dog in human years at 7 years old would be like a female getting pregnant at 35 years old. Most registeries will except any offsping up to 7 years of age for a female dog.

Definately too old for a first litter, IMO too old even if she had been bred before. I wouldn't risk my ***** to possible complications/death by breeding her that old.
