Because it is roughly the size of a tennis court:

"At 64 feet long and 42 feet wide, this twin-engine, twin-tailed, twin-cockpit fighter about the same general size as the North American B-25 bomber of WWII! Even compared to other contemporary fighters, the Strike Eagle is large. It’s size, in fact, makes it the butt of many jokes, including being called "The Flying Tennis Court" and "Rodan," the latter an homage to a giant pterodactyl that starred in a half dozen bad Japanese horror movies in the 60s."
