It depends completely on your circumstances, for example what nationality you are and for what reason are you wishing to immigrate. If you have skills in an industry that is in demand in Australia, you will have a much better chance. Just about all trades (plumber, welder, boiler maker etc.) are in strong demand at the moment. You need to go to the Embassy, they will give you the forms you need to fill out and have notarized

Check out the government website. There are special conditions generally unless you have a parent or relative who is an Australian citizen.
