Do you really think that now is the best time to tell him this? He is fighting in a war and he doesn't need to be thinking about that now. Can't it wait? You did say he is your ex, right? It really sounds like you are being selfish right now.

Do you know his unit? They may have a web page. Or the Red Cross may be able to get a message to him.
