They do that because they haven't caught you doing anything wrong but feel that you need to do penitance.

let's start with the premise that the "best" answer is one that doesn't end up with the lady crying (and perhaps binging later) and one where sex would remain available (and hopefully available inside your relationship - a straight up "Duh, girl, you don't gotta mirror, or what?" might make sex unavailable for the man for a long time, if you want to be the penetratOR, that is):
"No." That's the best answer. And it's usually 99% true for you purists. That's because it's more likely that the extra chins and huge bulges are what makes her look fat.
However, if you'd like to 86 the outfit, try something nice, such as:
"No, of course not. But I always think you look so sexy (in) _____(that blank should be filled in with a description of a different outfit. "Naked" and "those videos I made of you in bed when you were passed out" don't belong in the blank.
OR
"No. What I really think is that you just pop when you wear something that shows off your _________" (that blank should be filled in with a body part, an appropriate one. "chest" is an appropriate filler. "eyes" is cutting it kind of close; torso and limbs only, please - the caveat to that being NOT "Camel Toe."
You've got lots of options. Just be prepared. And although all women claim that they consider honesty to be more important than almost every other male attribute, in fact, not-so-much, and never brutal honesty about their body flaws or other women's bodily perfections.

What he truly feels. It might get him in alot of trouble but at least he's not lying. Don't ask something you might not want to hear the answer to . I think that a majority of women that ask that to there man aren't fat at all there just fishing for complements.
When I ask that it's because I want to know if what I'm wearing might make me look fat or unflattering and I expect an honest answer.

ask your girlfriend or spouse this, How did you figure out if you were fat or not before I came into your life. Run and look at yourself in a mirror and then announce what you think of yourself and tell her its that easy, so dont put you on the damm spot. I hate that question , I am a woman, I know what I look like without asking. duhhhhh

Evade the question with flattery.
Saying Yes or No is always wrong (it doesn't make sense, I know).
I always claim that since my opinion is too lovingly biased, I am the wrong person to ask. Women just want to be sensitively assured/convinced that they are attractive/not ugly, and sometimes it has to come from you.
So she looks cute to you in those jeans/shorts/shoes/glasses and needs to be reminded.

Good man says the truth. Normal man says what she expects. Fearful man says "look good" even she is fat, otherwise there will be a problem

The right answer is the only answer- "No." But follow it up with a "What makes you think that?" Find out where she is coming from and be sensitive and do what you can to boost her confidence.

Just say: "No honey, you're perfect! I love you just the way you are." Then hug her close, and kiss her like you really really mean it, and she'll forget about her dumb question soon enough.
Or you can say: "no, you don't, but I'll help you get out those pants anyway..." and then you, you know...
