ecstasy is a generalized name for a pill that contain a billion different chemicals. initially it was mdma which is pretty harmless. i had some that had rat poison in it. it gives you a "trippy" kind of high and then your body keeps you up for 2 days so you don't fall out and die. when you do sleep and wake up your bathroom is your best friend. unfortunately i had a house full of ravers and one bathroom. i probably lost a scoop of brains puking them up that time.
the general lesson is mdma isn't harmful orther than the depletion of seratonin which has never been studied -- what else is in ecstasy could kill you.
here is a page from erowid -- its an online page about any drug or herb you can think of -- there are a billion links off the page -- you might be able to find what you are looking for.
http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/mdma/
there are a few drugs that you can get at walmart that mess with seratonin much like mdma -- you don't have to mess with ecstasy to get similar results. i think you can probably find them on erowid too.

I think you mean "cites". damn, dont touch Ecstasy, you are fried already.
as for citing studies, it is easy to find supportive evidence no matter the results, to suit our beliefs.
I prefer the real science: self prescription.
been there, done that. and though have had my fun, it no longer buzzes me now, so I guess the receptors are fried. some memory issues, but life is more fun when you forget the sh!t that goes on around you.
I found that the more often you took it, the less high you got, but the low lasted longer. you deplete your dopamine supplies and the next day is a bummer. long term use makes the buzz only a few hours, not as high, but a few days of feeling lost.
choose life (or pop life and live faster)
since it has been years since i was a space case I feel glad for the experiences... better than the experience of sleeping (at the time)

EXTRACTS from Website given below
* Ecstasy is Not Addictive. But it can lead to compulsive behavior, and its effects diminish with continued regular use.
*. Ecstasy is Not a Substitute for Anti-Depressants. Because of its ability to lift the user's mood, consumption of Ecstasy can delay individuals from seeking the proper treatment for Depression. Some people experience more intense Depression after taking Ecstasy.
* You Can Die. There have been some deaths associated with Ecstasy. Many have resulted from heat stroke brought on by extended periods of dancing without replenishing body fluids. Other dangers may include liver damage, irregular heartbeat, decreased memory and learning ability. Two deaths were recently linked to Hartford's club scene and Ecstasy use.

The common ecstasy tablet has mdma in it as well as speed (plus other ingredients that we do not know about).
It is an interesting (and pretty untrue!!) theory that it takes pieces (!?) out of your brain?!
What it does do however whenever you take something containing mdma it increases the amount of seratonin in the synapses in your brain, and taking speed increases the amount of noradrenaline and dopamine. Repeated usage can deplete the amount of these substances in your brain (theyre called monoamines)
Reduced levels of seratonin can cause depression (as we all know) and repeated ecstasy use is known to cause or at least trigger depressive ilness.
Messed up levels of the other monoamines puts you at risk from other mental ilness eg messes up dopamine can cause psychosis or schizophrenia.
Ecstacy in theory can kill you from taking one tablet (if this one tablet is full of poison which it could be as no one is regulating the production of these tablets!) but the number of ecstacy deaths per yr compared to road traffic accidents or alcohol deaths is negligable.
Its true that over the counter meds can mess up the chemical imbalance of your brain just as much as illegal drugs but i think that the main worry of illegal drugs are the impurities and rubbish that dealers put with them to bulk it out and sell more to get more money
PS I'D JUST LIKE TO DISPUTE THE ABOVE PERSONS CLAIM THAT ECSTASY HAS THE INABILITY TO LIFT SOMEONES MOOD- TRY IT BABES!!!! it may have the inability to stabilise someones mood in the long term but it def has the ability to lift it.....
