Just watch them its funny.... And dont worry they will get used to each other....the kitten likes to play so he will always go back for more and the mother just needs time to adjust.... they will be fine trust me... I bought two kittens at the same time a year or so ago and they loved each other (not from same family) but unfortunatly when they were 10 months old one died in a car accident ;-(... But dont worry he wasnt driving! so after a month or so we noticed that the other one was very lonely so we decided to get another kitten.. At first they hated each other and fighted all the time.... But after a while they got used to each other started cleaning each other and now they are fine.....

all you have to do is just let them be..it's a cats' way of life..i have 8 cat and 4 kittens..the mother will be ok soon after she had more kittens..now,she maybe looking for a mate again because she only gets one kitten to look after or maybe she pregnent now..and left the kittens..just let them be..

Spray water at her, but don't let her see it is coming from you. She will associate picking on the kitten with getting wet, and hopefully will stop.
If the worse comes to the worse, you might have to rehome one.
But it should settle down once they have their own territories sorted out within the house.

they'll work it out. They are just testing and claiming territory. It is natural unless the mother truly hurts the kitten. Then you will have to take action.

Its probably coz they were stray and now they have come into human contact.. just leave them be, they should be able to sort it out themselves. however if the kitten is too young, get some formula from the vet and make sure it eats..

Sometimes mother cats chase off their young to fend for themselves like they do in the wild.I had a mother and son who learned to put up with each other but avoided each other when they could.

my mother used to pick on me but years of counseling have helped greatly, maybe the mother here needs that too.
Failing that use aversion therapy and threaten the mother with a pick axe whenever she starts. i found that worked too. Good luck!!
