You know while watching the Tyra Banks show yesterday I was amazed about the show on homelessness in America. I mean seriously 13-15 smart kids that are homeless because their parents are deadbeats. What does America do? NOTHING. I'm sorry but isn't the government's responsibility to take care of minors who have no place to turn to. The other day the group People For The American Way did a study that showed that if the Feds got rid of the mortgage interest deduction and the deduction for 401ks that money that the government could pay for universal health care, full care for all children under five and universal college. They went on to say that, and I agree, that the true people that benefit from mortgage interest deductions and 401k deductions are people in the top 15%. The other 85% would benefit more AS A TOTAL DOLLAR VALUE TO THEIR FAMILY BUDGET to rid of mortgage interest deduction and 401k and instead provide for free health care, college and day care!!!!

Well you obviously have a ax to grind, however America does treat us well and the deadbeat parents are to blame. They are there to help NOT to support. I don't want MY hard earned tax dollars going to support people who don't help themselves. If you remember Tyra was also talking about people curling up around their crack pipe, are those the people I want to help, well, NO.

Homeless minors (under age 18) can walk into any social services office and be placed into foster care once it's established that they are, in fact, homeless and are not being cared for in keeping with government definitions of what that means. Of course, there are many reasons that someone wouldn't WANT to be placed into foster care, and I'm no advocate of that institution in general. But it is there if they choose to take it.

Does any country in the world guarantee subsidized college educations for all of its citizens?

As far as universal health care goes, it may actually be a good idea since Canada already has it. If Canada DIDN'T have it and we initiated it, we'd be in the same position that Canada now is in--many of the good doctors simply move to the US, where they can make much more money. As a result, although there is universal health care in Canada, the waiting periods to see a doctor are quite long and it's been said that the quality of health care may not be as good as it is in the United States (but I don't know that for a fact).

As far as mortgage deductions go...what about the many, many people who have mortgages but who don't have children? Should they be penalized for the common good? Perhaps they should, perhaps not, but I don't think it's a question that has an easy answer.

How about parents take responsibility for their own children? If they go into it knowing they can't afford to give their child the necessities, they shouldn't have the child at all. It's irresponsible to think the rest of America should pay for your kid.

I agree that America pretty much sucks in regards to the division of wealth, but it's not only children that are affected. What about our elderly? What about the working poor? What about the average American over the age of 18? Do none of them matter when it comes to health care, or college?

Sadly, it's impossible for the government to know about these homeless kids and who and where they are. That's like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

I really suggest you also don't believe everything you hear on a show like that. I've never even heard of that group you mention and how do you know half of what they say is not blown out of proportion?

it's really a good country. I do not watch the Tyra Banks show and if I did I would not use any information gathered there to formulate political opinions. No need to post back to me as I will not check but, but just think to yourself of ONE country that does not have 13-15 smart kids who are homeless, or have the same number of children who have parents that are deadbeats. Then consider that the population of the US is most likely 50 times that of most countries and draw your own conclusions. You need to research reputable data to form these opinions and not base them on trash television.

I think the american government is sadistic!!!! For all the reasons you mentioned and then many, many more. The American people may not inherently be sadistic, but they have been brainwashed to be hateful to anyone or anything that is against the government's agenda. That's why we hate people on welfare, instead of hating our government for not providing free healthcare or better wages. That's why we imprison "eco-terrorists" who stand in the way of the corporate raping and pillaging of our natural reources.

That's why people hate muslims, jews, gays, women, and anyone else the governmant tells them is impeding their freedom.
