In the sense that our problems exist because we exist, all problems are temporary. As such, suicide solves them.
But the statement is not so much a fact as it is a commentary on how most suicides occur because people were dealing with a problem that would have gone away with time, a fact that escapes them, which is why they go through with the suicide. In this sense, the quote performs admirably well.

I believe that is the implication. Still, there are always suicides with whom one secretly sympathizes. I will come far enough out of the closet on this to say that I have come to forgive My Steve for committing suicide, however horrible it was for me at the time. It's been almost a year now, and I have had time to review the things he talked about in the last week or so, where hindsight tells me he had already made the decision, and was mostly trying to feel out how I was going to make it from there.
Steve actually mentioned that comment, and added, "But of course, not all problems are temporary." And I said that I thought people who use that expression don't think about that part. And I wonder now, should I have worked harder to put forth the proposition that suicide is never an answer? I don't believe that.
So at what point are we obligated to lie to those we love?

You must've read that suicide question last night. You're right, it is a stupid phrase that doesn't really make sense, it's like it's indicating that a solution to a problem shouldn't last very long. And the people who say "temporary problem" about suicidal people are so ignorant. Having terminal cancer isn't temporary, having a wife or husband die isn't temporary, those who call people who commit suicide selfish without even knowing anything about them are disgusting.

no one can say mental illness, when it can be cured. it may take sometimes a few weeks and sometimes not.
it depends case to case. but as far as depression is concerned it is very temporary and can be cured if the patient is willing.
if one is disturbed and doesn't want to come out of that situation then nothing can be done.
the term itself is wrong.
suicide is permanent lifting, how can one take it when the problem is temporary.
even if there are temporary problems, they can be solved one after the other.
no person is without problems. even the beggar enjoys his life sometime or the other.
if that was the case, all the deaths in the world would have been suicidal.

Suicide is not at all a solution to the temporary problem. It is only a way of getting away from the problems temperorarly. This gives rise to may other problems later, if you are a believer in rebirth. If not forget it.

That phrase pretty much asserts that. I disagree with the phrase though. Like you said, for one thing many illnesses are life-long conditions and therefore not at all temporary problems.
My experience is that the people who use that phrase are ignorant when it comes to mental illnesses. It has sure become a popular phrase though, regardless of how little sense it makes.

Think about it: nothing is a permanent problem. Here are basic examples of main problems that cause people to be suicidal:
Family troubles: if you're young and having family troubles, in a couple years, you could save up and live alone. There. Problem solved.
Relationship troubles: if you're in an abusive relationship, you cna seek help and leave it. If you're in a crappy relationship, you can just end it. If you're not in any relationship, you can make a better effort to get one, and then get one.
Friendship troubles: if you have mean friends, you can get new ones by meeting new people.
Work troubles: you can leave your job and get a new one.
Money troubles: there are always people there to help you and keep you safe and lend you money.
Drug problems: there are always people there to help you kick your habit.
You just have to remember, all problems are temporary. You only have one life, so live it well, while you can.

Yes it does. And it is true that all things change. It is just the waiting and hoping and struggles to improve the problems that sometimes discourage us and make us feel that there is no other way out. There is however a permanent solution to all problems that does not involve suicide.

No, it asserts that Depression is a temporary problem. People don't commit suicide because they have problems, they commit suicide because they have a mental illness.

Nothing in the universe is permanent. Nothing is absolute. Everything is fleeting. We must make the best use of the life that has been given to us.
Do everything that you want to do with passion. Love your life. There are nothing called problems.
