Lightly crack an egg on the edge of a bowl. Turning the egg upright, carefully open the shell into two halves, keeping the egg in the lower half. Over the bowl, pour the egg from one half of the broken shell into the other, letting the egg white fall into the bowl, but keeping the yolk intact in the shell halves as you pour. Repeat until all the white has fallen into the bowl, leaving only the yolk in the shell.
Tips & Warnings
Crack the egg at its midpoint and open with care.
If you're planning to whip the egg whites, take special care not to get any yolk in the white. Whites that have any fat at all in them will not whip properly. It's usually not a problem to have a little white left in the yolk. Try not to catch the yolk on the edge of the shell. It'll break.
There is a gadget you can buy for this purpose. I'm sure it's called an egg seperator and you can find it at a kitchen store.

I take a butter knife and hold it horizontally to the egg and give the egg a little tap making a horizontal crack, I take my thumbs and seperate the egg into 2 parts. usually the yolk stays in one half. I pour the yolk back and forth between the halves holding it at a perpendicular angle over the bowl.. the yolk seems to stay in the egg shell cup and the white slips out easily. then after I get as much of the white separated. I plop the yolk into some other cup/container ... goodluck! ^_^

I simply crack the egg in my hand and hold the yolk in my fingers and let the white drip through to a container below. I'll pass the yolk back and forth between my hands to be sure i've gotten all of it. I've used the ol' shell method but I seem to do better with my finger method. You can find a little cup shaped plastic thingamabob that will hold the yolk as the the white drips through.

crack the egg and hold the two halves one in each hand. Catch the yolk in one of the shells and let the white drip down into a bowl. It's very easy to do , you don't really catch it, you just let it stay in the shell. Oh, oh, Mr. Id
