Great question! First of all, dandruff and dry scalp are not the same! Although they are often confused for each other, because the symptoms are very similar. Dandruff is a condition of the scalp that results in flaky patches on the scalp and they are usually oily. It can be treated by using medicated shampoo and products. Dry scalp is the same as if your skin on your body was dry. Often if your scalp is dry it will itch just as the rest of your skin would if it was dry. Your skin tends to dry out on it's own when there is less moisture in the air(ex.winter season). It is important to properly diagnose the difference between the two, because using a dandruff medication on dry skin will only dry your skin out more. So try to moisturize your skin first if you are unsure wether you have dry skin or dandruff.

dandruff is itchy and contagious, (so never share your comb to anyone or use one) while dry scalp is due to lack of moisture.
