Prayer is the elevation of the mind and heart to God:
+ In praise of his glory
+ In petition for some desired good
+ In thanksgiving for a good received
+ In intercession for others before God
Through prayer the Christian experiences a communion with God through Christ in the Church.
"For me, prayer is a surge of the heart; it is a simple look turned toward heaven, it is a cry of recognition and of love, embracing both trial and joy." (St. Thérèse of Lisieux)
"Prayer is the raising of one's mind and heart to God or the requesting of good things from God." (St. John Damascene)
But when we pray, do we speak from the height of our pride and will, or "out of the depths" of a humble and contrite heart? (Psalm 130:1)
He who humbles himself will be exalted; humility is the foundation of prayer. Only when we humbly acknowledge that "we do not know how to pray as we ought," are we ready to receive freely the gift of prayer. "Man is a beggar before God."
With love in Christ.

You are clearly praying to the wrong guy. From your examples, you've been praying to Santa Claus, bringer of gifts and such. I'm pretty sure he's make believe.
If you are curious about the value of prayer to a diety however, I can clue you into the value.
The goal of real prayer is not to make a free throw, or fix your incurable cancer. From the perspective of the Divine Infinite, both are equally trivial. The only thing relevant in our short mortal span is 'do we measure up to eternity or not?'
Once you have the right perspective, you will understand that prayer is not about 'stuff', or even 'miracles', it's about gaining the guidance to live the proper life, make the proper decisions, and to learn how to put your heart in the right place. Praying for anything else is, indeed, useless, not due to a lack on the part of the Diety, but to your efforts to use prayer for insignificant purposes.
Imagine if you will, a person who uses his telephone to take a shower. He too would think the telephone was useless, plus he would probably smell bad.
In summation, nothing in this world rates the attention of the Divine but the Soul. The rest is simply fluff.

Praying is only for stupid people. It's obvious to understand how worthless they are if you just think about it for a while. Hint: most people pray for health or long life (ending sickness, etc.), yet there are no religious groups or people that have an average lifespan significantly longer than anyone else- if prayers worked then these people would live for at least thousands of years.
A recent $2 million study monitored 1800 hospital patients that were prayed for in several ways (or not at all) by several christian denominations and the results indicated that not only was prayer worthless, but that those who were prayed for actually faired worse. The study was done to show stupid people the obvious, but the researchers neglected to realize that the people they are trying to educate are so stupid they won't believe the results!

if you don't expect a miracle it won't happen when you ask for it because they require FAITH. you just said you expect it NOT to happen.
again with prayers. if you pray for something but don't have faith, then it won't happen.
even if you have faith, what you pray for must be God's will. For example praying for a sexy new girlfriend, or for somebody you don't like to die, or for a fancy new car won't work. That's not in line with God's will, AND it's just plain selfish and prayers aren't about being selfish.
promotion . . . . only if it's God's will and you have faith.
Muslim boss . . . .other people's religions have ZERO to do with YOUR relationship with God.
Freedom of choice . . yes God gave us free will.
"If God interprets with other people's action/thought, than there is no freedom of choice, isn't it?" . . . . speak English
"it's only a mere of coincidence." . . .again, speak English
I know the real truth already. I have a close and personal relationship with God. I also know what's going on with you. You're hooked. You've been fooled and lied too. But I DON'T know how to help you, because I know you don't want to hear me "preach" to you. I DO wish you the best. I hope you don't mind when I tell you God adores you. He's always with you no matter what you do.

The hilarious part of that is that studies were done to see if prayer did any good for medical cases, and people prayed for did no different or worse than those not prayed for. Prayer has no effect.

Imagine the worst thing ever you can experience.
Perhaps dying of cancer.
When the doctors have given up on you and sends you to the hospice.
Perhaps it's the time you have a prayer to God, ultimately it is between you and God.
Then perhaps it is at this time, you won't even mind saying a Prayer.

Its true, what you say, that praying for God to come down from on high and right your wrongs is silly and unrealistic. But how can you demean people's right to prayer? I don't believe in God myself either, but I understand why people pray, don't you? They use the hope that comes from their prayers and apply it to conquering things in their lives that are beyond their comprehension or control. Don't be so cavalier and quick to write-off something so wonderful and powerful as hope.

Prayer is powerful. As long as you believe in God you will be guided and directed through his holy spirit. Yes, there are answered prayers and some are not - all things happens because of his perfect will, God is good all the time. God is great.
