starbucks bites big time. horrible business practices; nasty, over-roasted coffee; frou-frou sugary drinks that aren't even really coffee; etc. i could go on & on but don't have the time nor energy to list the many, many reasons why starbucks sucks.

It's a love/hate relationship for me. Mostly because I don't believe in spending that much for coffee. Their prices IMO seem pretty outrageous and I prefer going to a 'mom and pop' coffee place which serves better coffee, teas and pastries (all decent prices as well). However, I have a Starbucks gift certificate for about a months worth of coffee. Not willing to waste it (I be poor), I go to Starbucks for breakfast and order a bagel and chi.
As for the 'mom and pops' coffee shop, so far they are doing well since they are in a good location (no Starbucks around, thank goodness). Heck, I'd fight tooth and nail to keep my coffee shop open. Too many of my favorite restaurants have closed down due to the overtaking of name-brand chain restaurants.

Yeah, Starbucks SUCKS! I mean, it's pretty dumb to pay $3.50 for a cup of trendy, pretentious, "designer" coffee just so Starbucks Corporation can get richer! They give it a fancy, artsy-fartsy name and jack up the price, and suddenly it's not just a "cup o' joe" but a extra-tall grande, mocha, whipped, double espresso, vanilla iced coffee, or some other lame-@ss creation that they can over-charge for! Hahahaha...ridiculous!

well then you just answered your own question, obviously starbucks is better if more people chose to go there than the place that you went to all the time.

Yea, they do that crap. It's just a very visible example of what corporate America is doing all over the place anyway, you just don't see it as easily. That said, they do have good muffins.

It is overpriced, and I grind better coffee at home. But on the upside, they treat employees like gold.
