Even amongst cardiologists that can vary considerably. It all depends on whether they are interventionalists, the ones that do procedures such as angiograms, stent placement, and angioplasty. Currently, interventional or procedure oriented activities are paid more that activities that are purely diagnostic or cognitive. Many doctors don't think that's fair but that's the way it is. The salary also depends on where they practice and the types of insurance that is around. Salaries can range from 180,000 to 360,000. It may sound like alot but when you calculate it on an hour basis and then add the 10 years spent to do the training most cardiologists will tell you that it isn't a good idea to do the job for the money. The money doesn't get you up at 2 in the morning to do an emergency angioplasy and then go on to do the next days work with the same intensity.
