Is it people who are faithful to him? Is it that he likes some people better than others? Is it as a display of power for unbelievers? Really, what are the criteria that God sets to perform miracles?

I'm not asking this out of spite. If anything, it's out of desperation. I've seen people on here talk about their or others' healings performed by God, and the one I love is suffering with an incurable chronic disease and lives in constant pain and fatigue. Why isn't he worthy of a miracle?

It is out of faith. One can pray and ask and have doubt and not receive. The other can pray and believe with all his heart and receive the miracle or the blessing. God doesn't play favorites. He requires faith only a the grain of a mustard seed. It's all within us. Either we choose to use it or we don't. Of course He also uses miracles to bring in unbelievers. He's done that since Biblical times.

I am not God. I don't know you or your situation. I don't know your friend. Maybe you are summoning the wrong God for his cure. Maybe you aren't a believer. Maybe your friend isn't a believer. He is worthy of the miracle. He first must believe he is worthy of salvation.

Everything that happens, happens in Gods time and for his ultimate purpose. Everyone is worthy of a miracle. I don't know how old your friend is or what he is suffering from but you obviously love him. It is difficult to understand the ways of God but be sure, whatever the outcome of your loved ones disease there is a reason and a purpose. I had a very good friend who died and I prayed to God that he spare him the suffering of his illness. He died. He was a good person and not once did he complain or bemoan that he was sick. He was pleasant, cheery and always put others feeling before himself, even on his death bed, he said "don't worry about me". He was not a Christian and I though about it hard. I eventually realised that it was a privelige to have known him and he impacted on my life greatly and the way I look at life. You see, I figure that Gods purpose for him was to suffer in silence and I learnt a great deal from that. I believe even though he was not a Christian, he was a good person and God will give him a just reward.

I don't think it's about being worthy or unworthy. I've been taught that God will answer ALL our prayers that are in line with HIS wishes. You can pray for help for your friend, but if it isn't God's will, then it won't happen.

On further thought . .about worthiness . . we were ALL made worthy through Christ's sacrifice on the cross. WE are all worthy. Worthy of God's love and worthy of salvation.
I'll pray tonight for you and your friend, and it will go something like this . . . Lord, IF IT IS YOUR WILL, then please help _____ and ____ through these hard times, and please help _____ get better. I have faith that if it's God's will, your friend will feel better. If your friend doesn't get better, then it's God's plan and there's some purpose to it.

Another thing to bear in mind. What happens on this planet, in the grand scheme of things, is irrelevant. Suffering is only temporary. The only thing that matters is what comes after death. What comes before that is nothing. God's blessings come after death.

I am truly sorry for your desperation and know that you aren't being spiteful.
I suppose it is the same thing as the question of why is God allowing all the innocent women and children to be tortured and killed in our world every single day?
Sure does make me question religion a lot. I used to be a firm believer in God. But when I see what transpires every single day with stories just like yours, I question. I am truly sorry, but I question how a merciful God would allow the suffering of the innocent.
I don't think it has a thing to do with the "believers" and the "nonbelievers".

God supplied the POWER for the miracles, but they were performed by Jesus and the apostles and disciples. [That POWER is the Holy Spirit, the power that God uses to get things done. It is a FORCE, and not a spiritual person.]
I say both, to differentiate between the 12 apostles that Jesus knew and apostles/disciples like Paul, who never met Jesus. Jesus had already died before Paul changed his ways.

The age of miracles passed with the death of the last apostle, John.
strange things have occurred since, but they can be put down to Satan, right now 'the ruler of the world'. And he will be until 'abyssed' by Jesus at Armageddon.
And 'abyssed [ Revelation 20;3] is not the end for Satan. It is only a temporary reprieve for us, to give us a chance to grow back to perfection. It will last a thousand years, then Satan will be let loose for a little while...to again test us. after that, he will be totally destroyed...And he knows it.[Rev. 20;10] We are 'fair game';

You make two presumptions that people are telling the truth about the miracles, and that they are Christian, rather than simply self professed Christians.

Miracles are not the exclusive property of Christians. Most every non-christian religion has people who commit healings and other acts considered a miracle. What God is helping them and why does one get help and not another?

God doesn't heal those people, and there haven't been any real miracles in years The people who get healed generally do so because of modern medicine, and the power of their own mind. And what some people call miracles are just everyday happenings or chance.

People who have experienced chronic illness and the debilitating effects of serious injuries have told me that suffering is a gift from God, and not a curse, as most people think.

How do you think that could be?

God's thoughts are not our thoughts
You can't predict God's thoughts
In God's perfect time
Expect the unexpected
God allows us to pass through trials or through the valley of death so he can show you that he is there with you and that he loves you.

I will pray for your love one

I know how you feel because people I love die before my very eyes - my dad, my grandparents, my unborn nephew, I went through all those pain just to realize God never left me and prove his love to me. I was suppose to die too but he was there to stop me from dying so you see that's the miracle of my life and its also a miracle I have a job I never apply for
