I am considering these 2 cameras. K-M 7D is 6.1pixels. Sony Alpha is 10.8, however, pixels beyond 6mp might be overkill. I rarely enlarge past 8x10. Does anyone have either camera? Can you tell me pros and cons? I like the features and rugged look of the 7D. The Sony is light, but I wonder about dropability.

I take it you have a bunch of Minolta lenses. If you don't need the extra megapixels - agreed if 8x10 is your maximum print size - get a (used) 7D and put the difference towards a wide angle. There's not a lot to DISlike about the 7D:

The Sony A100 just doesn't seem like good value for money compared to the Canon 400D and Nikon D80. I'd personally skip it, and see what Sony comes out with in 2007/8.

I would choose the Konica-Minolta because they pretty much specialize in photography products. Sony on the other hand makes all kinds of different electronic doohickeys and won't really, in my opinion, have the best quality for one specific product. As well, with Sony, you'll be paying more for the name than you will for quality. It would be kind of like going to a toilet maker to buy a fridge.

Buy what feels best. You will notice a difference between the 6 and 10mp. You will notice better sharpness on your photos. Plus why buy into a brand that was discontinued?
