Insomnia (sleeplessness) is due to stress, dietary and medical
problems. By making small lifestyle changes like having a fixed
daily routine, relaxing and eating properly, insomnia can be
cured. I found the information at http://tinyurl.com/jfzpz useful
for getting sleep.

Hi there, do you have a preexisting condition like Asthma?
Have you recently gone to the hospital with the complaint of SOB (Shortness of Breath)?
Has someone in your family died of any issues surrounding breathing, did you see a movie on it?
How long have you been feeling this way?
I think personally, when you lay down to sleep, your breathing, blood pressure, pulse and respiration's naturally slow down because your body and mind finally get to rest from the day's worries and stresses.
I think your body is acting normal if you answered the questions I gave you as no.
Good luck, let me know how it goes.
God Bless, Susie

I sometimes have difficulty when my nose is congested and lying down makes it more difficult to breathe. I just use breather-right nasal strips or smear some Vic's Vapo-Rub on my nose which usually works. Eating a heavy meal right before bed or being overweight can also affect ease of breathing while lying down.
Try doubling up on pillows which props your head up and may make it feel easier to breathe. Or try some hot tea or milk to make you sleepy. Or try reading or doing something until you become tired enough to sleep without thinking about your breathing.

Hi:) I share your pain! been there before! I went to the doctor about my sleep problen and not being able to breathe. Come to find out I had allergies!!!! He got me on some benadryl and it solved the problem! Allergies can often make you have a choking sensation or inability to breathe when you lie down. Not saying thats what it is, but I would check it and see. Benadryl is pretty safe so mabe try taking some before bedtime!

Don't obsess about it. Did you experience sleep apnea, yet? Maybe you did, which is why you think you will stop breathing when you fall asleep. Focus your mind on other things, because by having this kind of anxiety.... you will soon suffer from a serious depression, because of lack of sleep. See a psychologist please..... anxiety and depression can be treated.

Eat a meal, A big meal. Why do you feel drowsy after eating a Thanksgiving meal. It's not because of the Turkey, it's because of a full stomach. You get sleepy because of a full stomach.
