Prevent your guests from getting antsy and bored by hiring entertainment. Hire dancers, acrobats, musicians, magicians, or comedians, ect. Perhaps you can put together a slide-show of family photos and pictures of you&your fiance and play music in the background as your guests watch, laugh, and reminice. Purchase disposable camaras for each table. Leave a note on the table asking them to snap pictures of everyone throughout the reception and to leave them on the table when the night is over. This will keep a few people occupied and you will find several good pictures to keep for your wedding album. Going back to the idea of hiring entertainers- if you or your fiance would like to honor your heritages on your wedding day, consider hiring ethnic dancers/musicians.

You could sing to the guests like do a Cherokee. You could also invent a game to play at the reception but it would have to be something about getting all the guests involved. Well if you are having any maid of honors they can do like a little performance of a dance or something. You can also take pictures one by one with all of your guests and that way you would have time to greet them personally.

One of the funnest weddings I went to didn't have dancing. They had a photo booth. They used their DJ budgetted money to rent a carnival photo booth that takes 4 black and white pictures on a strip. It was $1500 for 8 hours and unlimited photos.
It was the hit of the party! They had a scrapbook next to the booth for guests to put one of their strips in, with a note, in leui of a guest book. People had a blast and no one noticed that no one was dancing.
...But you should have music playing to keep people talking. Just make some mixed CDs and play them in the venue's sound system using a good ol' boom box.

Of course, it will give you a better chance to meet and greet guests. You will have more time to spend with guests rather than cutting it short because you have to go and start a dance.
There are other things to do at a reception besides dancing.
You can take pictures, personally thank your guests.

It's good that you are not going to dance at your wedding. This way you get to avoid the Chicken Dance and the Hokey-Pokey.
This is kind of weird: at their wedding, my brother and his wife chose to NOT throw the bouquet and garter! That was the ONLY time I have seen this!
