A childhood friend of mine just died last month in Iraq. He was in the army. I was heart broken when I heard the news. I was friends with him since we were nine years old. He died at 21. He left behind a wife and 2 kids. Sooo sad.... It took me about 2-3 weeks to get over the news. I am not completely over it yet but I used to think about him 24-7 and dream about him every night since I heard he passed away. I wasnt able to attend his funeral but I saw pictures and read an article in my local newspaper. I keep the article clippings in my high school year book next to his picture.

Well, my DH has been Deployed more than once and is looking at another one soon. They are only Deployed for 12-16 months at a time, then they are back home for at least 12 months...that is how the Rotation goes. If anyone says otherwise, they are just looking for sympathy and have no bleeding clue what they are talking about. I didn't speak to my DH only once a week during one Deployment and almost everyday other times.
If the person is Navy or AF, they only Deploy for about 3-6 months. I have friends who are in both Branches. We are Army and we have the longer Deployments.

Thankfully, i don't know anyone over there now. I just watched a special on this called last letters. that's why I looked at this question. it was families reading the last letter they received from a soldier before he/she died over there. it's on HBO if you get a chance to see it everyone needs to see it.. i cried and cried and cried. very sad.

My boyfriend is over there now for 9 months. They aren't really allowed to tell you what's going on. Sorry.
