When it is asked why does the government not ban a drug of addiction that kills and hospitalises so many people, the quick answer is always 'money'. But is that true ? Isn't it a fact that the cost of smoking related health problems, including death, is more than what the government gets. Is there any evidence one way or the other ?

Why just smoking? Have you realised alcohol is just as bad? Alcohol is also addictive. Smoking is now banned at most public places yet alcohol is not. You cannot smoke in resturants,concerts/gigs or sporting events but you can drink. Go to any public hospitial on a friday or saturday night and I guarantee you'll find more alcoholics wasting taxpayers money than smokers.I read the other day about the number of people in their twenties and thirties who now have kidney/liver damage from excessive drinking. Think how many car accidents are caused by drinkers and innocent lives taken by these idiots. How many are beaten sensless in drunken brawls. Yes smoking is wrong and costs us all but nobody seems to complain about the costs of alcohol.

People who smoke usually can't get good health insurance or healthcare because we all know they're going to die if they don't quit.
