No kidding: a friend of mine, trying to describe the taste and texture, said: pineapple texture with a butter flavour.

Nobody else really agreed with him, though. (Do you?)

Can anybody give me an idea of what chicken tastes like, referencing things other than meat/seafood/poultry? (I have, no joke, never eaten 'em.) What's the texture like?

I did accidentally bite in to a piece of chicken once for a second, and thought "eww, it was like biting down on my own arm!" -- but that was Taco Bell fajita chicken, and I wouldn't recommend, say, getting an idea of cheese from the cheap stuff they use... But was it at all an accurate impression?

it's NOT. more like slightly rough but soft juicy, salty, meat. (are you vegitarian or something?)

No. Not even close. There's no butter flavor, no pineapple flavor, and the texture is much different than pineapple.

There really isn't a vegetarian equivalent to chicken the way there is for sausage or ground beef.

The joke is generally that other kinds of meat taste like chicken. It's a relatively bland meat. If it's cooked well, there's a sensational juiciness to it; if it's cooked poorly a la Taco Bell, it's dry and stringy, but again, no analogies to vegetarian concepts. Fast-food places that fry chicken don't even care about the chicken flavoring, and usually just heavily coat it with a fried fat and bread crumbs and salt and pepper and msg and sometimes cayenne-or-orange coating that would be akin to the crust on fried mozarrella sticks at a mediocre sit-down chain, and that's the dominant taste. Taco Bell chicken tastes mostly of the marinade; the chicken itself is bland and dry.

You are like the blind men trying to findout what an elephant actually is like.

No one can describe what chicken tastes like, especially different dishes taste different.

My favourite, though is tandoori chicken, I have converted 3 guys to non-veg by getting them to taste tandoori chicken. I don't know anyone who didn't lke tandoori chicken ( Its crisp , spicy, salty,toasty.... uh forget it. I can't do it. )

So never ever eat tandoori chicken! Kill plants, they can't protest anyways, and who needs oxygen? Be a good girl and stay a virgin. Vegan, i mean ;-)

PS- butter flavoured pineapple? And milk tastes like water.
