It depends how much of a hike and the weather and so forth. If it is just a day trip, then wear jeans or khakis or athletic pants. I like to stay away from shorts because you never know if you'll hit some thorns or poison ivy. Wear comfortable walking shoes or hiking shoes if you have any. Then wear a t-shirt or tank top and bring a light sweater if you think it will be cool. Make sure the sweater is not cotton. Cotton is just bad to take on hikes in general because it gets really cold when it gets wet, and doesn't keep you warm. I just figure, if this is a day trip, then you don't have to avoid it all together, but definitely have one item of clothing that will keep you warm if it gets cool. So... take a light wool sweater if possible.
