This is going to sound stupid, but I hear it all the time. Where did you buy your alternator from? If it's aftermarket, splurge for the one from your local Ford Parts Dept. I appreciate it may be an astronomical price compared to what you paid for your aftermarket unit, if that's the case. But, I've actually heard of someone once replacing THREE alternators that were defective, and replacing the FOURTH with a Ford unit with no problems after. I don't have any explanation for it, other than that vehicles with todays' electronics are very sensitive to voltage variations. Yours, and all other modern vehicles' charging systems are PCM controlled. Do what I've advised AFTER verifying all fuses, and other testing proved out of course. Hope this helps.

Put a volt meter on the battery while it is running. It should read 13.8 to 14.5 or so volts. Did you change the alternator before the battery.. You could have damaged the new alt diodes or got a defective one. You may also have some kind of short or large drain on the system.. The new battery should hold about 12.5V when not running and everything off.

My 89 stang is doing this same exact thing. Ahh. It just pisses me off when it dies and to beat it all I have to get my grandpa to boost me off with his 1990 ford TAURUS! Oh well we'll figure out what's wrong with it today. Just bought a new alternator so I'll put it on and see if that works. If not I'll come back on and throw you an email telling you what's wrong with my stang because it may be the same thing wrong with yours. Have you tried rolling down a hill and popping the clutch? Don't because it would'nt work for me yesterday!

How are your belts? Are they in good shape? I would do myself a favor, and have you buy one of those little computer scanner things you plug in the foot area of the Driver's side. It will read out error codes that will help you out. Since you have the internet, I would say that would be an awesome avenue for you. Get the code and put it on the net. It'll pull and tell you exactly what you need!

Good luck man, I tried to guess a few things but am drawing a blank.

do the volt meter thing but most important check the condition of your main fuses or link wire fuses on the engine compartment and also the fuse box under the left side of the dash if one of them is out the power that the alternator is generating is not reaching the battery good luck dude

Does your alternator have an external regulator? If it does make sure it is properly grounded. other than that is there any added on electronics(amplifiers, capacitors for amplifiers)? Also does it have what is called "Power Pulleys" on it? It sounds like all your alternators current is going to charge something other than your battery or maybe your alternator is not spinning fast enough(is the belt slipping?).

from my chair sounds like u have a draw on the battery when the key is off there is a test called a draw test and you put a meter between the one of the battery cables disconnected neg and u hook up the draw meter and start popping fuze's till u find the one causing the draw and see what it runs and go from there good luck,

Unless the GT had some aftermarket package then they should fit. The differences between a GT and a V6 are in the engine including the rest of the drive train and outer body parts that are added on. The basic auto body components are almost always the same.
