A very safe way to carry your passport is in a pair of cargo type pants - the kind that have lots of zipper type pockets. They are made for both men and women.

Another safe way is in Ex-Officio, Travel Smith type shirts that also have zipper pockets and also made for men and women.

Do not keep it in a purse or fanny pack - Was in S. American and two people in the group had the purse strap cut and a guy had his fanny pack slashed and lost everything.

Zipper pocket clothes are the best. :)

En route, I wear a pair of cargo pants and keep it in the pocket opposite the passenger I don't know. If I am in the middle then I would carry it in money pouch that is attached to my belt. Those neck pouches seem okay. I perspire too much to have that kind of pouch. I also have a dress pant that has a few zipper pockets built in. Never found anything similar like it again. Yes, Travel Smith sells some pants and shirts with zipper pockets built in.

Around town, I only carry a copy of the first page. I leave my passport in my room in the room safe. You are supposed to carry a copy of the visa but I have never had a problem nor ever asked for it unless it was in an airport or crossing a border.

Ultimate control is the money pouch that you tuck into your pants. Money belts are cumbersome. Pouches around your neck are too convenient. But, a pouch around your crotch, you know when someone is down there.

Neck pouch. Get them at any travel place, they are pretty common. They are just a heavy cotton pouch big enough for a passport, travel docs, & money that goes around your neck and under your clothes for safekeeping. Great on trains and coaches where you might want to sleep.

I have a cotton pocket thing, with straps that I can tie underneath my clothes. It is all but invisible, and can hold passport, cash and credit cards. I have used it seldom as I have not found myself in unsafe places. yet

We always carry ours in our "money belts" under our clothes... along with our credit cards and other valuables. Here's more about our suggestions: http://www.mousetourstravels.com/money.html

keep in a pocket on the inside of your clothing preferably near your skin. that way, if it drops, you will feel it.

in a money belt/pouch would probably be safest... I usually just keep mine in my front pocket
