Why does iTunes freeze during download of certain podcasts?

Would appreciate any inputs on how I can avoid this.

Details:
Win XP using iTunes 7.02 (the latest as of 11/9/06)
Upon opening iTunes, it immediately proceeds to continue the download process it left off the last time it was closed.

How do I stop iTunes from doing this?
