These figures and deaths are continuing. What would satisfy victory in Iraq?
BAGHDAD, Iraq - A stunning new death count emerged Thursday, as Iraq's health minister estimated 150,000 civilians have been killed in the war — about three times previously accepted estimates.
Moderate Sunni Muslims, meanwhile, threatened to walk away from politics and pick up guns, while the Shiite-dominated government renewed pressure on the United States to unleash the Iraqi army and claimed it could crush violence in six months.
After Democrats swept to majorities in both houses of the U.S. Congress and Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld resigned, Iraqis appeared unsettled and seemed to sense the potential for an even bloodier conflict because future American policy is uncertain. As a result, positions hardened on both sides of the country's deepening sectarian divide.
How is it going to end?
How would victory in Iraq be determined?
The signing of a piece of paper, by whom!

My personal belief unfortunately will be the same as Vietnam...after spending vast amounts of money and human lives we may end up withdrawing.
The true outcome is determined by the citizens of the US .Will the citizens continue to support a war that has proven to be costly both in economic and casualty aspects?
It will take more than military force to establish peace in the Middle East. The divisions among the Shites and Sunnis go back many decades and peace must be worked out among these to groups themselves.
These groups will continue to live in the area long after the Coalitation Forces have returned home.

Hard to say. Once a Democracy is in place, the Sunnis aren't just going to accept the fact that they can never win because the Shiites are 70 percent of the population. They're going to fight and cause civil war. That is unpreventable. The Shiites, Sunnis, and Kurds simply can't exist under the same democratic roof without some violence or bloodshed.

they've made it very clear that the goal is to get their government set up so where they can run their own country. if we left right now they would be right back to where they were when we got there with dictators running the place. i'm not saying that we've done a great job being there, but i don't think we need to leave right away yet. we need to finish what we've started, but i think we need to try something different in order to achieve it. i'm not going to pretend that i know what that is though. that's our government's job, and i think with the recent changes in the government good things might happen.
this is coming from a very conservative republican too. for the most part i've been very happy with the government lately. unemployment is actually BELOW what is considered full employment (full employment is considered to be 5% unemployed, and we're at 4% right now). and the economy is doing great. the stock market has recently hit several all-time highs. BUT i'm not completely happy with how they've handled Iraq. i think it's time for some new strategies there.
so basically, it will end when Iraq has a stable, democratic government which they can run by themselves, whenever that will be.
btw, if you think all that's happening in Iraq is death and destruction, you'll be happy to see this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SdCAuNKwyzs

The funniest thing to sit back and watch is WHY we are still in IRAQ after all these years. We are fighting an enemy not clearly defined "terror", and our leader says we cant leave because if we do (20 things will occur. First the old terrorists will return, and second IRAQ will crumble. And this has every person thinking its not right to "Cut and Run" another clever use of words to justify a war that will never end.
Why are we in IRAQ and what are our intentions?
It would take less than a year to train an army, a few more months of deployment training for the IRAQI soldiers.
Even in the Unites States Military theres criminal investigation divisions that monitor bad situations, theres internal affairs for out police departments.
We train the soldiers and the police once. we dont keep retraining them. There will be bad seeds. But after the first incident IRAQ should make good example of what happens if soldiers do bad things under the cloak of the uniform. Instill enough fear with punishment and curruption will take care of itself there.
But were expected to set up a perfect government and a perfect army when we cant keep one ourselves.
It doesnt make any sense to have US soldiers in the middle of their religious battle any longer.
Someone wants to keep us their for a hidden agenda, becase I find it too hard to swallow that an army cannot be prepared after 3 years!!!

The death of bin Laden will have no effect as he is nothing to do with Iraq. There will be no victory, the USA will cut and run and leave the Iraqis to clean up the mess caused by the invasion and occupation.

Worst case: the sectarians will kill each other off and the moderates will take control after much horrible and needless bloodshed and destruction. This will take decades.
Best case: the sectarians will learn to live with their differences, only kill each other occasionally and for secular reasons, and the moderates will take control after not-so-much needless bloodshed and destruction. This will take a while.
Probable case: some combination of the above.
That is how it works. The outcome will be determined mostly by the warring sects' ability (or inability) to peacefully coexist.

The hijacking trick received't artwork anymore. It did contained in the previous because in many cases people survived in the journey that they did not strive against decrease back. On 9/11, people did not strive against decrease back and were given killed. So from now on, people will assume that in the journey that they don't strive against decrease back, they're going to be killed. A dozen adult adult males won't be able to administration all the passengers and crew in the journey that they do strive against. this doesn't recommend there's no extra plane terrorism, of route. they could set off off a bomb in a plane. besides the undeniable fact that it is not ordinary for them. Frankly, it type of feels that Al Qaeda is only a fragment of what it replaced into. different communities will get up of route, because the conflicts are by no potential settled. i might want to wager that diverse smaller coordinated attacks will be extra effective for destiny terrorism; yet again, this takes a good number of work and it will develop the prospect of their getting stuck first.

It can only end peacefully by Iraq becoming a FEDERATION, like Bosnia. Each group in Iraq needs it's own space inside Iraq. They seriously need to take a look at the Bosnian model.
