In Nelson there will be supermarkets open, but otherwise the only places you will drive through will be Richmond and Motueka and neither of those are very big. Better stock up on food before you set off!
If you've not been to Abel Tasman before, you'll have an amazing time! Azure sea, blue skies and sun pretty much guaranteed - don't forget the sunbloc. I recommend sea-kayaking over walking though - lots of wasps in Abel Tasman over the summer time (but then I have a phobia of wasps, might not be so bad if you are braver than I am!) Look out for the little blue penguins and lots of seals. Have fun!

Do you mean you're driving, or walking the Abel tasman track?
Because if it's the track you aren't going to find anything but trees.
