- There must be a god because you see him/her/it in the beauty and perfection of nature, DNA, starts, etc

- evolution has recently been proven false because of "such and such" magazine article/scientist/study, etc

- I'd rather play it safe and believe, than risk my immortal soul

- I know there's a god because he speaks to me everyday

- if you put a bunch of parts in a bag and shake it up, you don't get a computer

- Jesus died for your sins... if you'd only study the teachings of the bible, you'd come to understand the truth

- are you telling me you came from a monkey? I KNOW I didn't come from a monkey!

- how could life just happen? How can something come from nothing?

- Do you actually expect me to start reading and studying science? I'd have to leave the comfort and safety of my cocoon of dogma!

Okay, I'm starting to digress, but you all get the point. I know we all slap our frontal lobes and say, "ugg" (or chuckle to ourselves), but is there any hope for these poor folks?

tell a scientist that a truck can evolve given a billion years and he would say you are foolish. The same scientist would say you are foolish to say that the theory of evolution is to be believed otherwise you are foolish. truck is much much much less complicated than even a single celled oraganism. If a scientist can't even agree that a truck can never be made without a creator how in the world can he prove that the whole world with all its extrememly complex designs which are interdependent on each other so much that its so delicately balanced evolved itself? Doesn't that sound more stupid? plus just because there are a set of evidences that support evolution that does not mean that evolution is proved. just because you see small footprints in the sand you can't conclude it is of a dog, it could be any other animal , hence the conclusions drawn from evidences can't really be conclusive.. whatever you think I can't ever understand evolution though I have really read and seen a lot about it.

-----------------

lol, see its hard to believe a truck could construct itself in a billion years.. taken as a big blunder said by me .. haha.. after all scientists say that evolution did happen through a series of random chances.. so why not a random chance of getting a truck? sounds absurd, huh? thats the kind of absurdity that even the theory of evolution has because its says that so many things much much more complicated than a simple truck evolved itself from nothing.. I mean from no life. which is really much harder to believe.. and just one sentence out of a whole argument might look stupid, but when you take the whole argument it would not look that stupid. And evolutionary proof is not conclusive.. its only supportive.. there is much difference between supportive and conclusive.. and I am not an ignorant person who simply states without knowing anything, I am really much interested in science and read and see a lot of things..

Yea some of those are real headbangers.

You can add oskeewow's answer to your list. And the "trucks didn't evolve in a million years one too" And the footprint comments - heck i know Christian hunters that would see footprints and know if it was a dog or fox, which sex it was, how long ago it went by, and just when it would be there the next day.

OK I need to go before i start gouging my eyes out.

You forgot

- the bible can not be proved or disproved by science, it must be taken on faith

- Everyone believes in God, even atheists. It is not possible to not believe in God.

- Christians who do things I don't personally agree with are not 'true christians' and should not be held up as an example of a Christian no matter how deeply held their convictions were.

and so forth and so on.

I feel more like the caveman in the Geico commercial who is explaining to the reporters that cavemen were responsible for vital discoveries in history, and the woman quips, "Sounds like someone got up on the wrong side of the rock this morning."

How about the "I'll pray for you." or "I feel so sorry for you." that they add in when they can't refute what you've said intelligently?

or ARGUMENT FROM LACK OF DISPROOF
(1) You can't prove God doesn't exist!
(2) Therefore, God exists.

or ARGUMENT FROM WE ALL GOT FAITH
(1) We all believe in something.
(2) Therefore we all have faith.
(3) My faith in God is no different from your faith that the sun will rise tomorrow morning.
(4) Therefore, God exists.

or ARGUMENT FROM HATE
(1) Some Atheists hate Christians and Christianity.
(2) That's why they don't believe in God.
(3) Pathetic, aren't they?
(4) Therefore, God exists.

or ARGUMENT FROM THE BIBLE
(1) [arbitrary passage from OT]
(2) [arbitrary passage from NT]
(3) Therefore, God exists.

or ARGUMENT FROM THE BIBLE (II)
(1) The Bible says the Bible is true.
(2) Therefore the Bible is true.
(3) The Bible says God exists.
(4) Therefore, God exist.

It's enough to make you lose your faith in the intelligence of mankind.

Yes there is hope, but if they can't see it I can't make them see it. Besides, I KNOW I did come from a monkey! And that God does exist

Many of those are at least arguments. I get frustrated by non-sequitors like "Jesus died for your sins."

It does give me gas - but, hey, it's a free country. As long as their not hurting anyone else and as long as they are not forcing their beliefs down other people's throats (say as in creationism or anti-homosexual propaganda) then --- let 'em have fun.
