My cat, Abby, eats styrofoam in my house. I was wondering if I should worry because it is bad for her. I try to get her away from it now, but I want to know if it is or isn't hurting her.

I no it is not GOOD for her, but I want to know what it does! I already take her away from it, so don't think I'm a bad owner!

Thanks for the tips, though...

If it's ingested regularly, then a toxic buidup of the chemicals used to process styrofoam can occur. That can kill the cat easily. If it's only sporadic exposure, it can still be very dangerous, but primarily as a concern for intestinal blockage and sepsis to occur. Basically, if the cat isn't using the litterbox for several days, is listless, and meows in pain at times.... that would be the back-up of waste and foam slowing expanding her insides and putting ever-increasing pressure on it's other organs. Either way... styrofoam is not a kitty treat, so remore the foam and remove the temptation. You'll sleep a lot better afterwards. Hope this helps.

Of course its not alright for a cat to eat styrofoam. You wouldn't eat it would you? It is not digestible and could cause a blockage in her digestive tract that is if it doesn't get stuck in her throat and suffocate her first. Take the Styrofoam out of reach of your kitty. NOW!!

No, she can not digest that and your going to end up with a blockage that will require surgery to remove. Keep the styrofoam away from her.

No...that's what we would call a bad thing. Get it away...and why do you have styrofoam lying around the house, anyway?

It is definitely not "all right". Nor should she eat sawdust, paper, cloth, cat litter, etc. or any other item that is indigestible and could cause life-threatening impactiion in her stomach or intestines.

For heaven's sake put it in the trash!

It will give her a stomache ache, I'm surprised she hasn't thrown up yet. Poor kitty.
