Drink lots of water. This way, you might be able to flush the virus out of your body. Its true. I did that and I didn't get a cold. Also, if you are going to take medications, take them repeatedly. If you take one in the morning and forget to take it at noon, and then take one at night, the effect of the medicine won't be as good as if you took it at morning, noon, and night. Also, Vitamin C helps. Eat oranges or apples to get that. Sleep a good 8 hours or more and try not to be too active. Don't go outside if it is very cold. It will just make you cold worse and can give you more problems. Also, get some chicken soup. I think it has nutrients that will help you immune system.

take Echinacea and lots of Vit. C. If the throat gets worse or cough persists then buy some real Ginger root and boil it (to make a tea) for 20-30 minutes and drink with honey. It worked for me. Also, get plenty of sleep.

Garlic, simple cut a raw clove of garlic into tiny pieces, then mix with some honey and swallow without chewing it. But don't over do it on the garlic since it could upset the stomach. And at bedtime is the best time since you aren't out and around others due to the smell that might offend others.

You can't.
There is a new drug that will lessen the length of time.
You have an infection, whether bacterial or viral and it is up to your immune system to fight it. Before you could do anything to boost your immune system, you will be over the cold. Linus Pauling thought that vitamin C would do the trick. After years and years, it was proven to have no effect.

There has been studies that cleaning your nose out with a saline solution is effective for that. If you have not seen the comercials the product is called simply saline. Saline is just water with a tiny bit of salt in it if you want to try this at home. DON'T GET IT IN YOUR EYES.
