I do believe that animals have a soul
They love us, protect us with their own life' they sense danger and harm, you can look into their eyes and know they have a soul
I have prayed for my pet when he was dying and God healed him, after being ran over by a car
There are animals in heaven.
The lion will lay down beside the lamb, and no harm will be done.
God will give them a spirit of love, and not fear

I believe in some way they do, I know Christians who say there will be no animals in Heaven and most of them are not animal people anyway... But then there are Christians I know who believe we will see our deceased pets in Heaven, they are of course the ones with pets and who love animals. I also believe animals do because I have seen my own pets react to different situations in different ways, one of my cats reacted violently and flew at a woman I had as a house cleaner for a while, she hissed and lept at the woman to scratch at her. A couple of weeks later I found out the woman had been abusing her children and interfering with them. My cat seemed to know this womans spirit because she doesn't usually behave in such a way. My dog on the other hand seems to know when I am having a blue day and entices me outside with playful barking and jumping around and then carries on in the yard making me laugh. Through these things and many more I can only believe they are created with a spirit and soul and I can only believe that God would not destroy the bond that He created between animals and humans. I see beauty and gentleness in a cows eyes and collect ornamental pigs...... I love animals period and believe they are far more than we realize or some wish to believe they are because they are not animal people. As for your Tarantula, I'm an Arachniphobic so I can't imagine Heaven with huge eight legged creatures or I don't think I'd want to go to Heaven, but who knows...... No fear in Heaven hey, so maybe I'll come to love the citters then, I'll just put that thought out of my mind for now. Some people are connected, bonded to animals more so than people, I'm like that so I believe they are more than flesh and bone but then there are people who are frightened by or dislike all animals and they are the ones that will say Heaven is an animal free zone.

The theologian St. Thomas Aquinas agreed that the souls of plants, animals and humans share some characteristics. He argued that there are vegetative, animal, and rational aspects of the human soul. Animals share with us only the animal and vegetative, and plants share just the vegetative.

The reason it seems like Christianity teaches that animals have no soul is that Christians believe each person is created in the image of God, with an innate capacity for a relationship with the Divine. Animals apparently lack such a capacity, which is why they can appear to be content whereas mankind is perpetually nervous and can hardly bear to be in a room alone. As St. Augustine said, "Our hearts are restless 'till we rest in Him."

this is something that has always bothered me as well. I think my initial basis comes from my cultural background as a cherokee. regardless, I'm christian as well (even though there is so much stigma attached to that word. don't get me started on issues with christianity and the church and christians, etc).

some scripture that I found to be super interesting is found in ecclesiastes.

"Man's fate is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath (or spirit); man has no advantage over the animal. Everything is meaningless. All go to the same place; all come from dust, and to dust all return. Who knows if the spirit of man rises upward and if the spirit of the animal goes down into the earth?"

just some food for thought.

Animals do have a soul. They are just not triune beings with a spirit like ours. They have a body and a soul, but we have a body, soul and spirit because we are made in the likeness of God the animals are not in God's and Jesus's likeness.

I think animals have spirits. Everything was created spiritually before it was created physically. Sometime I wonder about cockroaches, though.

Probably because the Bible is silent on this issue, otherwise we would believe it.
