Theobromine, a component of chocolate, is the toxic compound in chocolate. (Caffeine is also present in chocolate, but in much smaller amounts than Theobromine.
White chocolate: 200 ounces per pound of body weight. It takes 250 pounds of white chocolate to cause signs of poisoning in a 20-pound dog, 125 pounds for a 10-pound dog.
Milk chocolate: 1 ounce per pound of body weight. Approximately one pound of milk chocolate is poisonous to a 20-pound dog; one-half pound for a 10-pound dog. The average chocolate bar contains 2 to 3 ounces of milk chocolate. It would take 2-3 candy bars to poison a 10 pound dog.
Semi-sweet chocolate has a similar toxic level.
Sweet cocoa: 0.3 ounces per pound of body weight. One-third of a pound of sweet cocoa is toxic to a 20-pound dog; 1/6 pound for a 10-pound dog.
Baking chocolate: 0.1 ounce per pound body weight. Two one-ounce squares of bakers' chocolate is toxic to a 20-pound dog; one ounce for a 10-pound dog.

A dog that is 5-10 pounds can die from eating as little as 4 ounces of baking chocolate.
Poisoning signs are hyper, vomiting, diarrhea, rapid breathing, weakness, seizures and coma. Death would occur from cardiac arrest.
If your dog has eaten it within the last 6 hours induce vomiting
The chocolate in candy bars is not as toxic as baking chocolate, but it's not worth the risk, don't feed it to them.
If your dog swiped a piece of your kit kat from Halloween, you probably won't need to be concerned but keep a close eye on it.

There is an enzyme in chocolate. Some dogs are more sensative than others. For some it only takes a tiny bit & they die
Therefore, it isn't worth the risk of having your dog die just to find out whether or not they can tolerate a small amount of chocolate

What my vet told me when my dog got into a hershey candy bar was that yea, chocolate can be harmful, but only in large doses depending on the size of the dog...Since he only ate a piece, it wasn't going to hurt him because he's such a big dog...However had he been a small dog, it could have killed him...Baker's chocolate is the absolute worst for animals...Something in it is much more potent than in a sugar filled candy bar...Do not give your dog chocolate...For his own good, and for your pocket book...

>He also mentioned it was new collage pupils who are new and in concept it could kill them however it's not real in reallity it is distinct> Does that imply whatever like new school scholars best 'go with the aid of the book'? - if so that's correct considering the Theobromine content material of chocolate is genuinely poisonous to puppies. In fact that tiny little dogs are at critical hazard; darkish cooking chocolate is set 10x worse than milk chocolate. If a massive dog eats a few squares then not a concern. In fact I solved the drawback with the aid of maintaining chocolate within the fridge becuase it tastes so a lot better cold.

I agree with the others who answers so briantly your questions.
My doberman once left to sleep in a room where I had a party and I left a huge ball full of chocolate golden coins.
The next morning our dag did not want to move and he looked so lymphatic.
We were really worried, particularly because he was not a young dog. We realized he ate all the chocolate and his hang over was worst than ours. It was then I made research and realized what are people below saying......
Bewared and be careful you could loose your pet..

Found a good site, check it out for all the details.
There is a component of chocolate called Theobromine. It is the cause for all the trouble with animals.
The toxic dose of Theobromine (and caffeine) for pets is 100-200mg/kg.
The effects are:
Excitement / nervousness / trembling
Vomiting / diarrhea
Excessive thirst / sometimes excessive urination (at higher levels of Theobromine toxicity)
Muscle spasms
Seizures
Coma (rare
Death (rare) -- likely due to heart rhythm abnormalities.

Chocolate can kill your dog. My dog once ate a small piece of chocolate and the vet made us give her peroxide to get her to throw it up.
