Junior is more proper for a first name. If you are naming after the Father then follow what the Father uses. Jr. means the second. So you can also use roman numerals. My Dad is Jr. And my brother is the third (III). The hospital can also advise but I believe it is really a matter of personal preference. Besides if it made much difference he could always change it later.

Unless Junior is your husbands name then it would be JR. I think it would be a bad idea to put it on his Birth certificate that his name is "John Jr. Nathaniel Person," because then he would have to write the Jr. on formal documents, etc etc, it would just be a very confusing addition to a birth certificate. Can't you see filling it out in the DMV? I would raise him as Jr, but leave it off of his birth certificate in the first place.

I would spell it Junior on the birth certificate and if you want to make it shorter you can easily just write Jr and if I were you I would probaby make Junior the middle name because it now a days you dont hear about many Juniors

Its up to you, but if you did spell junior out on the birth certificate it would not matter, because every place use abbreviation, Like Jr. so he might not never have to spell it out. Its one in the same.

Officially it should read Junior on the birth certificate. However, after that, it can be written as Jr.- which is the proper abbreviation for junior.

Yuck...I hate juniors. Can't you make it his middle name instead?
I think Jr. is how it's supposed to be, but I'm not quite sure. Ask a nurse or the person that handles your certificate, I'm sure they see it all the time. OR...use your husbands first name as your child's middle! That's what my Grandpa did for my Dad. There will be much confusion in the future if you have two people with the same name under one roof. Think if all the George Formans. Ironically, that is my uncle's name.

Jr will do just fine because they are only going to abbreviate it on the birth certificate anyway
