How much exposure can cause harm?

There is only one side effect of staring at a computer too long and that is dry corneas.
We tend to forget to blink when as we stare at a computer.
Blinking helps to moisten our corneas and failure to blink allows our corneas to get dry.
When corneas get too dry,corneal damage can occur and that could lead to real problems that will require medical attention.
It probably is a good idea to get up and move around from time to time and get away from the computer and allow ourselves to blink.

They say that, for every 20 minutes you are looking at a computer screen, you should look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. I sure hope it isn't damaging because I stare at a computer 8 hours a day...
