Is it really so difficult to believe both hold some truth at the same time??? I mean seriously, you can't take the bible word for word! its a guide. The bible should show you (both directly and indirectly) the attidtudes, morals, views, and actions that are more or less the way God desires it. Whilst it may say that the world was made in 7 days, you must understand that the bible (whilst authored by God) was writen by mankind, and hence 7 days could be an easier way of saying 7 millenia. Many things in the bible are writen in certain ways to make it more understandable, without it loosing its potency.
We are afterall, only human.

The Catholic Church does not take the stories of creation in the Bible literally. Catholics believe it tells religious truth not historical fact.

The religious truth is that God created everything and declared all was good.

The Church supports science in the discovery of God's creation. At this time, the theory of evolution is the most logical scientific explanation. However tomorrow someone may come up with a better idea.

As long as we believe that God started the whole thing, both the Bible and modern science can live in harmony.

With love in Christ.

Evolution sort of carrys on from the bible. While the bible holds some truths, I feel that it is a dated history book that is open to mis-interpretation, it can be very ambiguous. It was also written in a different time when the society then was completely different to now. Yes, it may as well be 7 millenia. Therefore, the bible can be a good guide, but I feel that it shouldnt be taken so literally. The bible's potency is there, however, it does not do any harm to take on board the knowledge we have acquired through science.
And we most definately must make allowances for our intrinsic human traits!

Lets put one thing straight first.
PURE Science and PURE Religion do not contradict each other
Evolution is a Scientific THEORY it is NOT Pure Science.
God has Created Rules and follows them.
God is Logical he does not contradict himself.
There is only ONE True Religion.

Its only pure if it is true
If it is not a fact it is a theory only
And Theories are false till proven true.

I have been studying Science for the last 10 years
and as for the Theory of Evolution, it is Just that a Theory.
it is basically like trying to guess what a picture is by only looking at less than one percent of the whole picture.
There are millions of species alive today, and many more species have gone extinct over the history of this planet. also out of the billions of single life forms that have lived on this planet very few Fossils have actually been discovered.(this is the <1%)
these fossils that have been discovered have been used to map out a Theory of Evolution composed of Plateus (rungs of a ladder or steps on a staircase, but with nothing connecting the steps or rungs together) of species. But there are no fossils that have been found that are between these Plateus. for the Theory to ever become a Fact what is reqired is to find fossils that clearly show the change of one species into another (rope, rope-ladder(rungs), or chain of fossil evidence, when graphed will show a slope with horizontal flat sections) or for some currently living animal to give birth to something that is unable to reproduce with the Mother species but is able to reproduce with one that is identical to it.

An Evolutionary-Mutation would be fertile, but would have a completely different Genome from the Parent Species, unlike a normal mutation which damages the genetic code leaving the child infertile or with severe birth defects that ussually end in death, example is a mule which is the cross between a donkey and a horse. though it is similar to the parent species it is unable to reproduce with either species or with other crosses. it is therefor infertile and therefor it is a mutation and is not considered a new species.

Many people have tried to claim that the Finches of Galapagos Island and other areas of the world are able to evolve. This is not the case all it is is a case of specialization. it is simply a case of rececive genes taking dominance through variences in food availability. (the differences noticed in the Finches have been beak sizes and shapes).

As food availability changes the finches that have the genes which will enable them to make the best use of the available foods will gain dominance over those finches whose beak genes are specialized toward the food that is out of season or no longer available. therefor the average shape of the beaks will change over time in acordance to what food is readily available.

The finches have not changed species thay have just become specialized within their species. tThis can also cause some Genes to become extinct within a Species or Race. this is why "Race" could even be concidered to exist. Can make the Species Stronger or weaker based on what genes are lost over time.

On the other hand if the finches were no longer able to reproduce with the parent species but were only able to reproduce with other finches with the same beak size and shape then that Would mean that they had undergone Evolutionary-Mutation.
But this could only be tested in a Labratory under Precice Conditions.

Evolution is a theory that all living creatures evolved from some a common evolutionary ancestor.
Evolution also states that this creature evolved from rocks and rain. the reverse steps are
Animals and Plants
Single Celled Organism
Prehistoric Cell, Mitocondria, and Chloroplasts
Ooze that contains building blocks of life
Rocks and Acid Rain
Lava and Gases from volcanoes.
That is what unpure-science claims you evolved from, in that order.

And since religion gives the only other alternative i'll have to go with the belief that we ARE created by God.
After all how does a quatinary biological programing language (DNA) that works actually come into existance by accident.
There is too much order in the universe for it to have just happened.
And even though there is the theory that an organism arrived on earth via a comet or asteroid it still had to come from some where and if you are saying it evolved it still came from a rock.

No it isn't hard to believe both hold some truths. One holds more truth while the other holds more fact. One is still a "theory" by definition and the other is proven historically from documentation better than any of the previous world wars. Have you read the previous questions and answers on this topic? Heated to say the least!

Seems to me this line if inquiry just winds up drawing out more about peoples' opinions than finding real answers, and lots of argumentative tones.

The message of the bible, that salvation comes only through Jesus, is the important part and the part that christians should concentrate on portraying to others by being christ-like. The creation/evolution debate is not important unless it's the one thing stopping an atheist coming to know jesus. It's good to have an answer ready for people who try to tell you they know the 'facts' don't fit the bible, when every honest scientist would have to admit that they do.

It's not evolution vs the Bible. They are completely compatible.

It's reality vs. the Biblical literalists who believe that the true word of God was written in English in 1611, and became truer in editions from 1629, 1638, 1762, and 1769.

It also says God created the first man and woman.
Who gets to decide what parts of the Bible are to be taken literally?
All scriptures were put into the Bible for a reason. (2 Timothy 3:16)

People have been slaughtered throughout the ages because they did not blindly believe the 'truth' in the bible. When it was written, it was done (by man alone) to create the history of the world as they would like us to believe - in order to elevate this god and his followers to the pompous and bombastic level they like to dwell at. And why is it so potent, or poisonous? Because it offers a bribe (heaven) if you worship this myth, and delivers an evil threat (hell) if you do not. Lovely stuff.

There is to much order and precision in the universe to believe that we just evolved. I believe in an intelligence that brought all things about.
Due to the amount of harmony in the universe we must have been created by that intelligence and which I call God.
