Yes, most likely. I have been told by different professionals that it is like being diabetic--one who has to take meds all their life. It's just something you get used to.

I take an anti-depressant along with an anti-manic agent. Effexor and Eskalith. For the long run. And I'm okay with that.

A person with bipolar disorder must stay on medication. If they quit it the depression can be so severe that it causes suicide. Or on the other end the mania can cause a person to do something dangerous and impulsive. It is not worth the trouble to experiment with this and end up in a hospital or jail. You just have to accept the diagnosis and the treatment which is medication. Best of luck to you!

I am Bipolar and I take 3 meds on a daily basis (Celexia, Depakote and Seroquil) and yes I will be on medication for the rest of my life. I have tried to go off of them and I just always end up getting really unstable. I'm just thankful that there is medication we CAN take to control the symptoms. Bipolar sucks!

Of course it would depend on what the persons psychiatrist thought by examination of the patients records and patients evaluation. Only he can make that determination. But in order to keep Bipolar in check you have to take meds on a regular basis. If you go off of them, then you will have a relapse. So I would leave that decision up to the professional.
