With a plant identification guide...either a book or webpage. Just match up the leaf shape and tree appearance.

If you know the scientific name, you can look it up at the USDA Plants database. If you don't know the scientific name, you'll have to try and identify the tree with picture books, local experts, or a detailed description here on Answers.
