When you drink lots of water (Say 500 ml) before having food, is it good or bad?
I have two opinions with explanations.

Good - the water dilutes enzymes. Thus the digestion (chemical reaction) takes place in a soft manner i.e., no gas is released!

Nod Good - The water dilutes the digestive juices and hence the digestion is affected due to the lack of concentrarion of enzymes!

Can you guys please tell me which is correct?

Water does dilute the enzymes. Sip during meals if you need to and have more liquid 30 minutes later.

Note to Miked - I can't email you an answer because your addy is unconfirmed.

It will help because it will make you feel fuller, so you won't eat as much food. So, you won't have as many calories taken in. I've never heard anything about water or ANY drinks taken while eating affecting your food digestion. I NEVER drink while I eat (just a thing since I was never given drinks when I was a kid...) and I'm still overweight...so don't believe that NOT drinking is going to make you lose weight by your stomach breaking down the food faster! IT DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY! If it did, I'd be skinny as a stick! :-)

I'm with the dilutes enzymes group. Drink at least 30 minutes before, but whenever you drink it, make sure it is alkaline. Lots of bottled water is actually acid. Some don't list pH, but you can test yourself. I bought a bottle of distilled water that was pH 6 and tested my tap water that was pH 8.5 making it a better choice, except for the chlorine.
