Registered Nurse here; Because it increases your blood sugar level, and some studies indicate that the brain releases increased levels of dopamine, (theory not fact). Plus we have taken a break from our work schedule, get our tummies full, and like a any well feed animal, we are ready for a little snooze. LOL.
Thanks for the opportunity to answer such a delightful question.
Yawn--Just ate.

It's because it requires an enormous amount of energy to digest food, large meals or oily foods can make you feel sleepy because your body is concentrating it's resources to process it.

It is partially fatigue from too little sleep, so any relaxing period encourages sleepiness.

It is mostly from carbs and the sugar swing/crash. This is why people are sleepy after huge meals like Thanksgiving (it's not the tryptophan from the turkey).

Because when we eat a lot of food our stomachs expand which uses a lot of energy to do so causing our sleepiness

Usually it's an overload of carbs and sugar and it's the low you get afterwards. I get tired right after I eat ANYTHING. I literally can't keep my eyes open and I HAVE to take a nap. It sucks.
Tonight, my dad was ordering dinner and I literally was saying what I wanted and fell asleep mid-sentence! I'd fallen asleep after eating vegetable soup earlier this afternoon...once I fall asleep, I can't wake up! It's awful.

The blood in your body gears more towards your stomach, thus leaving your brain with less blood and sleepy. Talk to your bilogy teacher with the proper info.

Depending on what you eat, most of the time it is because your body uses quite a few resources to digest food.

because of tryotopham (amino acid) you ate that suppress the level of hormone from the pituitary and hypothalamus, thus inducing drowsiness

Part of it has to do with an amino acid tryptophan.
