It is VERY common, unfortunately, for kids 13-16 to feel depressed. It's a really rough time in everyone's lives, believe me. If you were an adult I'd say it was probably the lack of sunlight associated with this time of year, but I'd say you're feel depressed because you're trying to find yourself, and you can't...you will, but it usually takes a few years. You want to fit in and to figure yourself out at the same time. It's very difficult. Just know that you should tell your parents how you're feeling, because they love you and want to support you. Eventually if you become chronically depressed (for a long time) you may want to find a therapist or something you can talk to about how you're feeling. It realllly helps. Also, start journaling, get your thoughts down on paper or on a computer document. Listen to music that reflects how you feel...that can be really therapeutic. I know it seems to be counterintuitive but it feels good to relate to someone or something like art.

Kinda hard to determine, since we don't know any details.
First, I'm going to assume you're talking about an incredibly normal form of "depression," synonomous with "emotional". You wouldn't be a normal 14-year-old girl if you weren't that kind of depressed. It has to do with hormones, a lack of experience and knowledge, and an overwhelming feeling of believing things in your life right now are permanant (meaning, if you're upset about something, you may be putting too much emphasis on it, but you just don't have the experience to know that it's not really as big or as permanant as you think it is). When I say that, I'm not saying your problem is not so bad since it's not the problems I have, but it is true that the majority of former teenagers :-) see things on a pretty amplified scale.
Second, it's not unheard of for a teenager to experience clinical depression. This kind of depression usually has less to do with crying a lot, and more to do with being distracted, irritable, unable to focus on tasks, changes in appetite or sleep patterns, a feeling of kind of floating through life, and/or losing interest in activities you normally enjoy. If this is the case, talk to your parents, a school counselor, or someone who could get you in contact with a doctor to see what kind of treatment options you have. Many of the antidepressants are attributed to an increase of worse depression or suicidal tendancies, but I'm inclined to beleive it's just that they're ineffective, and the lack of relief depresses teenagers even more. It is possible, though, that your doctor could get you on something that would work, or would recommend counseling. If no lifestyle changes work, you should definately talk to your doctor (I would talk to him or her anyway... depression can also keep you from having the will or energy to take care of yourself properly). If you have clinical depression, "cheering up" or taking a bubble bath or using Feng Shui or yoga is going bring you out of it.
Naturally, if you feel like you could hurt yourself or anyone else, call a hotline, your doctor, or 911. Giving in is weak; acknowledging the problem and doing what you can to help is not.
Best of luck to you!

You are going through so many changes at your age. With hormones and going through the phase from child to teenager. Here is what I suggest. Find things you like doing and get out there and do them. Find hobbies and get involved in activities. The activity part is good cause it builds up a natural "feel good" chemical that your body makes.
Now, if your depression is getting you really, really down then you need to have a talk with your mom and/or dad. You may want to talk with a school counselor too. Do take my advice though especially on activities. Join a sport event at your school or take up jogging and biking or something. Good luck!
