Ok, there are MANY small dog breeds. Be sure to check up ALL information about ANY dog breed that you are interested in. Almost ALL small dog breeds are hard to house-break so if you are not committed or do not have the time to house-break a small dog - maybe go for a medium sized dog or a different pet that is easier to house-break.
Some small sized dogs (that you might find cute) are:
Papillon, Chihuahua, Pug, Yorkshire Terrior, Jack Russel, Maltese, Bichon Frise, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Chinese Hairless Crested, Havanese, Corgi, Lhasa Apso, Kyi-Leo (rare dog - go to http://dogbreedinfo.com/kyileo.htm for information), Miniature Poodle, Pomeranian, Ori Pei or Shih-Tzu.
For more dogs that would suit living in an apartment or small units/town houses/houses go to http://dogbreedinfo.com/apartment.htm for a HUGE list of dogs.

I would suggest a toy or mini poodle. They are both very well suited to apartment life and do not require a lot of exercise like most other breeds do. They do not shed and are oderless. They come in almost every color imaginable. They are also about the most intelligent dog breed you can get. They are extremely easy to train and are very affectionate. Fetching things come quite natural to them since this is what they were originally bred to do. Toys are great, but, personally, I prefer the mini poodles because they can navigate easier through a house. For example, they can jump onto tall beds with ease...if that is your choice. Also, if your new pet will be interacting with children, the mini is much better suited to a child's play than a toy. It all comes down to personal choice. Interact with whatever breed(s) you are considering and get a little hands-on experience before getting a puppy if at all possible.

Depending on how big/small she is would make a difference. Does she seem happy? Or depressed? How long is she in there during the day? Do you walk her every day or at least play and spend time with her? Are you planning on getting the yard ready for her soon? I think as long as she has food, water, time to play outside of there, and seems happy it should be fine, but not long term. And if you think she's ok, and again, she is acting normal, then it should be ok. Some people don't like to keep their animals blocked/caged, but when they are that young, you have to be ready for the damage to your home if you just let them roam. Good luck, and get that yard ready for her soon!!!

I would also suggest a yorkshire terrier, we also live in a small town house and I own 2 yorkies. Just remember to take the dog for regular walks as they have a lot of energy. Good luck

Toy poodles or Chihuahuas are tiny dogs perfect if you have a small pad. Owning a dog requires commitment and responsibility. Dogs are almost like children. Think about it before you own one.

I have a Boston Terrier and live in an apartment size house. They are a smaller breed and very affectionate. Though mines hyper and requires at least one walk a day. Maltese are also a good breed.

The smallest doggie in the world is a chihuahua. It can even fit in a tea cup!(well some of them can!) Otherwise a yorkshire terrier, maltese, bichon frise, mini poodle, pekinese, mini- pinscher/greyhound, will do good!
