How can I find a soldier that is possibly deployed? I know that I can't go through the Red Cross. I am not sure on his unit...but I do know his name.

rhank god i founf you online again. i did some research for you yesterday. i went to the JAG office here in gemany and asked them a few questions. and this was the outcome.

1. if your friend just wants to know for her personal benefit then there is nothing the military can do to help her.
2. if she decideds to seek a lawyer in order to establish perternity then the military willback her 100%
3. first she must obtain a lawyer, give the lawyer the name, rank, DOB, and the unit he is curretnly with, as well as his last or current duty station.
4. the lawyer will then draft a petition to have him submitted for a DNA test which can be done down range and sent back to the states.
5. upon drafting the petion the lawyer must contact the soilders unit and make them aware fo teh situation so theyc an help out.

that is basically the five things he told me, it sounds pretty easy if you ahve a lawyer but with out one that is when it gets tricky. but she can always go to the unit he is deployed with. trust me there is always someone in te office, the whole unit never depolyes they always leave people behind for back up. people are always wiling to help all she has to do is ask. if you need any more information or have more questions tell her to call the nearest JAG office in the state that she is in and they will be mroe than willing to help her.

It used to be easy to track someone back in the day, but now they are trying to track the privacy of soldiers. If you know someone who has an army email account, you can ask them to check the army white pages for you. If he has an army email account also, it may/may not include his unit on there. The only other choices you have is trying to track a soldier the same way you would a civilian. You can google to find websites that give you the persons last known address, etc. And then you could mail them and hope that the mail would be forwarded to his new address. Otherwise, no one is really allowed to give you personal info on him.

There are various support groups for soldiers families. A lot of them have web sites. You can try one of them. If they can't help you directly then maybe they can at least point you in the right direction.

Your best bet is to contact that soldier's family. The military will not release any information on a soldier unless it is for specific legally defined reasons.
