accidently mixed the cables, realized when the radio started to smoke a bit, car works fine but now the radio is dead. is the fuse blown or is it time to get a new radio

i own a repair shop,and its time for a radio,what it did was reverse the polarity on it,and this burnt it up,its not good for anything now but the trash can,don't worry we have all done something like this once upon a time,so don't feel bad,besides you probably needed a good radio,anyway,,good luck i hope this help,s.

A very simple suggestion. Check the fuse. It should have blown before the radio smoked. Good luck. Pops

You are lucky only the radio is dead, with modern cars and computers, I have seen a car which also needed a new ECU, transmission ECU, cilate control ECU, alarm and dash that were cooked.
Throw away the radio and be very carefull next time and if you do not the proper leads never jump start from another car unles you know the proper way

All electical goods are run by smoke. If it comes out, its dead = ]
There are two cables for your stero that runs to positive
Hot and Warm.
The warm cable (is constantly running) gives power to things such as clock for the radio
The Hot cable is the main power that switch on your stero (and it should have its own fuse) only turns on if you turn on your ignition.
very bad thing you done.... it could have even damage other stuff like your computer for the car.
the best thing to do when jumping; the car with a dead battery.... connet the negative cable to the body or anything metal.

If the magic smoke came out of the radio, it is most likely toast. Time for a new one. You are lucky that it was the only thing to go up in smoke.

some if not all radios have a protection diode inside in case of reversed polarity,these blow out to protect the radio,a good radio repair shop may be able to replace the diode
