Neither planet, nor sattelite.
Pluto is too small to be a planet out of the "new" definition of planets. Sattelites are objects (natural or artifical) that are orbiting a planet like our moon.
The new rating of pluto would therefore be "dwarf planet" or trans-Neptunian objects, the same category that is valid for Ceres and Eris.

When the international meeting of astronomers voted against Pluto as a planet I'm sure they were splitting hairs given that Pluto has historically been a planet since it's discovery.
This is not whether we believe in Ptolemy or Galileo but something that's subtle, could be correct either way and even all the astronomers don't agree on the subject.
Had all the astronomers who attended the meeting actually voted on the proposition I think it might have gone the other way and we wouldn't be stuck with having to change everything.
My conclusion is I protest and say Pluto is a planet and hope something more sensible comes out of the next international meeting of astronomers on the subject.

well since august 2006 Pluto is neither a planet or a satelite. u see in august it was declared by some astronomy community that Pluto is too small to be a planet and it have none of the characteristics of a planet. now it will be called a dwarf planet.
for more information you can go to discoverytimes.com and search for "The last planet in our solar system".

Pluto has recently been removed from the list of planets and so now it will be called dwarf planet. So now we have only 8 planets in our solar system. And yes it is not a satelite and never was called one, satelites are objects which revelve round planets.

The solarsystem consists of all the bodies that revolve the sun ie. basically the major and minor planets, the asteriods, the satellites, the comets.
Pluto, according to the modified definition of major planet, is no longer a major planet but it is still a part of the solar system. It is now considered as a minor planet along with the asteroids.

pluto is not a satellite, you can debate on its being a planet because its smaller as compared to some asteroids,so it may be considered as a asteroid but not as a satellite.
