The low limits match the low driving abilities of Ohioans. And plus, it's safer. GO BUCKS!

Good question. The speed limit for school zones and construction areas are set by the department of transportation (ODOT). Normally, 20 MPH zones are set in business and residential areas. 25 MPH (and higher) zones are set on state routes outside a municipality. Of course, traffic citation fines are much higher in these zones. Hope this helps. Go Buckeyes!

It's just a safer speed. After all it is school kids were talking about protecting and I don't think 20 is to low. By the way in Oklahoma it's 20 miles per hour also.

Ohio is taking the kid's lives as a higher priority then getting somewhere a few minutes faster.

Here in WA. state it's even lower. It should be, or a car won't be able to stop quick enough! If a child ran out into the street, it needs 2 car lengths for every 10mph it's going to stop! So, even at that 20mph, it might hit the child if not careful!!!

In Cali it is 25, in some states it is as low as 15mph.
The purpose is to give you time to react to the darling little schoolchildren who might dart out into traffic.

Think of it in a good way. The slower you drive the less gas you waste. They are saving you money so don't complain. On a side note, lives are more important than a few minutes.
