Being an ex-drill sergeant in the military, I would say (assuming you are female), 7 pairs cotton underwear, 7 cotton bras, and not much else. You will not need any civilian clothing. They lock up anything "unmilitary" when you get there. Your recruiter or the people at the MEPPS center should give you a list of things you will need.

Congrats. I am a veteran myself. Unless a lot has changed. You should bring toiletries, and cotton underclothing. Prepare to look the worst that you ever have.lol. I wish you all the best, the friends that you make will be for a lifetime. You can also take a brush or comb, but no curling irons or blow dryers. You will live in BDUs (camiflouge) and boots. You will only wear class A and class B your last two weeks of training which is blue phase. When I was in there was three phases red phase(HELL), white phase(less Hell) blue phase (Hallelujah)
Advice, do not volunteer for anything, stay as quiet as possible

Also, you won't just be gone for 9 weeks. You also have schooling for whatever MOS (job) you choose. And I agree with the first person, they are legally bound to give you time off without punishment.

they should have given you a list of what to bring.
i remember arriving there and they had us empty our bags onto the ground. the D.S. then called out whatever was on the list, like "7 pairs white socks!!" everyone would hold them above their heads. then he would tell us to put it back into our bags.
only bring exactly what they tell you to bring.
