My hubby just went out and bought some children's Motrin and Tylenol- both liquids. The Motrin contains acesulfame potassium and the Tylenol contained sucralose (splenda). It seems as though they are sneakily doing it by not making it clear on the box that the product contains artificial sweetners, hence most consumers are unaware of this practice. I steer clear of these ingredients in the foods I purchase and feed my family. I know that they have been using alchohol derivatives like sorbitol for years. I'm not as opposed to these. What is the purpose of this? Why not just use sugar??? I am both curious and furious!

*ahem* Just a spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down! Also, they love to make it taste like candy so that the children will try hard to open the bottle and never succeed. They like to make kids cry. If the child does bypass the child-protection lid, he/she will most likely drink tons of it because it is so sweet and heavenly. You would then need to bring the child to the hospital and spend tons of money to pump out his/her stomach causing you to have to pay tons of money which again is given into the medical industry to help the process be repeated once more. A never ending cash flow. Actually, I just made that up...I have no idea why they add so much sugar. Maybe it makes them all hyper so that you think they are better or something. Then they get even more sick from acting so crazy and silly which then causes you to have to buy another bottle of the medicine which then causes the same effect and all you do is keep giving money to the medical industry which of course is a never ending cash flow once again. Actually, I made that up too. Have a nice night! Hope your child gets well soon!!!

If a child takes medicine like tylenol or even vitamins that contain sugar before they go to sleep, the sugar residue will stay on their teeth and encourage rotting of those teeth. It is equivalent to the "baby bottle tooth decay" that makes teeth rot and blacken enough to have to be pulled. That sounds like something that would make a mother even more furious.

So it tastes good, and kids will like it. Sugar has been getting a bad rap because of the calories in it.

Artificial sweeteners bother my stomach. I like sugar.

We need the government to make all companies list all ingredients on all products.

I saw on the news recently that soda pop with artificial sweeteners can increase your appetite. If a person is drinking lo-cal pop to lose weight, they are defeating their own purpose.

Without sugar the medications taste nasty. They put flavors in the children's medication so you don't have to chase your child up the wall to give him/her their meds.
