WHen I attended an AOG (assembly of god) church, the deacons were the elected male members who served on the church board and assisted the pastor in leadership duties.

They would also form a selection committee if a new pastor was needed.

They also took care of communion and were responsible for assisting in the care of needy people

I dont know them all but I do know some. They are to make decisions about issues in the church. That is really about all they do I think.
